12mo, pp [4], 206, uncut in early 20th Century half patterned cloth over marbled boards, leather label to spine, spine a little dulled text with light foxing and small marginal stain to upper inner blank margins, else a good copy, FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH; the Latin original of this strange work of mystical philosophy in support of marriage as a spiritual institution appeared in Amsterdam in 1768 as ' Deliciae Sapientiae de Amore Conjugali', this first translation being considered rare, as is the somewhat later first English. The translator given here is pseudonymous, actually l'abbé Philibert Guyton de Morveau. A decent copy in uncut state of a nice example of 18th century 'curiosa'. £250.00
